Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone!

As we move into 2016, I am going to attempt to get back to my roots within the book community and I'll accomplish that primarily through my blog. 2015 got away from me in a lot of ways that I never intended - school became my top priority and reading sunk way low on my list of activities. I let my YouTube channel fall to the wayside and even more neglected was this blog. I do not regret my choices - I will always advocate that a student should put her (or his) education first but as I move into my last semester of school, I'm looking towards an immediate future that will allow me to focus more time on reading.

So, as a person who loves her cliches, I thought that I'd kick off my 2016 blogging year with my 10 bookish (and bloggish) goals.

1. Read more. Whenever you have the time - read.
2. Stop yourself from getting caught up by what is popular in the community. If it doesn't intrigue you, don't worry about reading because everyone else is doing it.
3. Figure out a blogging schedule that works for you and stick to it.
4. Work ahead. The only way that blogging will work is if you plan and work ahead of time.
5. Be honest. There is a difference between being critical and being mean - respect that line, but do not sacrifice your opinions for fear of hurt feelings.
6. Simplify. Simplify your blogging style. This is supposed to be fun - not a chore.
7. Participate in the community more. Whether it is through Good Reads groups or blog tours, get out there and make some friends.
8. Whittle down your TBR pile. Minimalize.
9. Seek out the content that you want to make. Find inspiration.
10. Read another Jane Austen novel. Finally.

I'd love to hear what you are hoping to accomplish in the New Year. I'll see you all very soon.

  2. Hey Alyssa, what is a blog tour? 3, 4, 6 and 7 all ring true with me. One managed 1.5 posts at either end of 6 months so I definitely need a plan!

    1. Hi, Kate! A blog tour is a publicity/marketing strategy for authors who have new books coming out. There are "agencies" that set up the tour - you sign up for it, pick a day/are assigned a day, and post the provided information (usually a cover, synopsis, and author bio.). I hope this helped :)

  3. Great Goals. I'm trying to the same a bit and blog some more, as well as make videos. Number 2 specifically rings true, gotta stop getting caught up in the hype of everything.
