Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish
This weeks topic? Top ten books at the top of my summer TBR list

This is the perfect topic for me this week, seriously. For so long, I've been ignoring my ever growing TBR pile with the whimsical thought of, "Oh, I'll just get to them... someday." But no - that stops here! Here are ten books that I am committing to reading over the summer... and you need to hold me accountable to it! I even made a shelf on Good Reads called "must finish in 2013" - that sound serious... right?

Now, these titles are in no particular order... and I'm including them because they've been collecting dust for an embarrassing amount of time. Let me know if you'd read any of these books!

The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde

I keep hearing fantastic things about this book and Fforde's writing style in particular. I finished reading Jane Eyre last month and adored it... and am hoping to re-visit some of the characters in this story.

Of Poseidon by Anna Banks

I purchased this book for three reason: 1.) A good friend of mine said that it was fantastic, 2.) The cover is absolutely beautiful and, 3.) I found it for about $3. Unfortunately for it though, this poor little book has been collecting dust on my floor for months.

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

When I first heard about this book (which came with sky high recommendations, by the way), I just had to have it... But, did I read it once I finally tracked a copy down? No, of course not.

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

Honestly, it isn't necessary for me to write a blurb about Starcrossed. Just go back and re-read what I wrote about Of Poseidon - it is the exact same story!

Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

Ah, here we are - the sequels. I read Hush, Hush a really long time ago and enjoyed it... but Crescendo got pushed to the side and just... stayed there. Hush, Hush was good... but I have a feeling that Crescendo will prove whether or not I want to continue with the series.

The 10th Kingdom by Kathryn Wesley
Amazon + Good Reads

This book is a novelization of one of my favorite mini-series of all times: The 10th Kingdom. When I saw that Hallmark had commissioned an author to write a book - I needed it, had to have it, paid way too much for it because it is out of print... But I'm already seeing that this book will be the savior should a reading slump hit me in the middle of the summer.

Teachers Pest by Charles Gilman
Amazon + Good Reads

I was lucky enough to be sent this book from Quirk... Which is the latest installment in the Lovecraft Middle School series.

The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wunder
Amazon + Good Reads

I keep hearing wonderful things about this book - that it is perfect contemporary YA and a perfect summer read. I'm really hoping that this book lives up to all of the amazing things that I've been hearing about it. I know that we're only a few weeks into the summer, but I have been all about contemporary YA!

Cloaked by Alex Flinn
Amazon + Good Reads

I bought Cloaked as an attempt to redeem Flinn for me. I've only ever read Beastly and it just... wasn't good for me. But all of the rave reviews surrounding Flinn's works convinced me to pick up Cloaked... Here's to hoping that it will live up to the hype.

The Second Summer of the Sisterhood by Ann Brashares
 Amazon
+ Good Reads

Once again, we have a sequel... except that I know that I'll enjoy it. I don't know why I've been holding off finishing the Travelling Pants series but it seems like I'm on a one book per summer pace.

That's my Top Ten Tuesday for this week! Which books are on the top of your summer TBR?

  1. I Capture the Castle is a GREAT read - and that particular cover is so gorgeous. Definitely fits the book well.

ooo ooo and The Probability of Miracles! It is a really good contemporary read - and it might or might not have made me cry a little...

    Hope you enjoy your picks!

    1. I think the reason I've been holding off on The Probability of Miracles is just that - a ton of people have told me that it'll make me cry!! I'm glad to hear that you loved I Capture the Castle!

  2. I LOVED Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series (although I somehow have skipped a few books here and there and read it completely out of order. It didn't matter that much though). If you've read Hitchhiker's Guide and liked it (of course you would. I don't understand how anyone wouldn't!) then you'll love this. It's just like Hitchhiker's, but in a book instead of space!

    1. I had NO idea that The Eyre Affair was part of a series (I can be so clueless sometimes) but I'm glad to hear that I don't have to read all the books to understand it. And it is like Hitchhikers?! Uh... I need to read it - NOW!!

  3. Of Poseidon was an interesting mermaid book. I DNF'd Starcrossed, sadly. The narrator drove me absolutely nuts. Happy reading!

  8. I loved The Second Summer of the Sisterhood, I hope you do too. As for Cloaked... I didn't think it was great, but for some reason I still read novels by the author.

  9. I picked up I Capture the Castle YEARS ago (like 8 years ago) because it sounded beautiful...but I never actually ended up reading it. I think it's still on my shelf actually. But I've heard so many great things about it, I feel like I should dust it off and read it finally.

  10. The Eyre Affair is fantastic. I actually found myself liking and understanding Mr. Rochester as a character much better in Fforde's novel!
