"Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?"

My expectations for Origins after finishing Opal
The cliffhanger, and the emotions, and the uncertainties... and I just was putting it off for so long and then finally August rolled around and...

My expectations for Origins after hearing some early reviews.
There were a lot of mixed reviews... some people loved this book but quite a few people really didn't love this book... and as I tend to be very realistic (read: pessimistic) about how I'll feel about a book, I decided to trust the negative reviews.

My feelings while reading Origin
Me: This isn't half bad... I thought this was going to be terrible... Actually, I'm really digging this... Yes... YES.... YESS!!!

And thus, my theory is successful yet again. The key to enjoying an overly hyped book? Focus on the negative and head right on in. I always go in expecting the worst but come out pleasantly surprised.

All joking aside, I actually really enjoyed this book and I have to hand it to Armentrout - it can't be easy to write each installment in a 5-part series and please every single devoted fan. I know that a lot of people were unhappy with this book but I flew through it and am anxiously awaiting Opposition.

The main thing that can be said about Origin is that it felt like a major shifting point in the series. Some serious crap went down at the end of book #4 (Opal), which forced both Daemon and Katy into new scenarios, meet new players, and basically to grow up past their eighteen years. The dialogue and chemistry between Daemon and Katy didn't diminish at all - if anything, it was even more intense - but rather than acting like teenagers, their relationship was forced to evolve into something more mature and adult... and I loved this. There can definitely be something said for teenage relationships in paranormal YA (c'mon, I fangirled my HEART out for Bella/Edward during Twilight)... but I love seeing characters growing and having to face adult decisions.

Another big part about Origin is that we finally get to learn more about Daedalus... We're shown pieces of what they're doing, who exactly is on their side, and most importantly - why they are doing what they're doing.

I don't want to go into any more detail because I really don't want to spoil the previous books for you. Just note: 1.) This book is a change of pace from the first three, 2.) Katy and Daemon are forced into crazy situations and because of this, their relationship becomes more adult and mature, and 3.) Sh*t hits the fan. If you don't think that you're prepared for this, don't force yourself into reading Origin yet because, believe me - you need to be ready.

Did you enjoy Origin? What are your predictions for book #5?
